As the weather turns lovely and warm, the thought of going to Camp Shoshanah again this summer has the whole family eagerly anticipating a great camp experience. What began several years ago as a “meat seeking” experiment has quickly become an important part of our lives, one that has changed us all.
What I mean by “meat seeking” is that we were hungry - hungry
to understand the Bible in a deeper and more meaningful way. Having the scriptures taught in their Jewish context was like putting on glasses that were the right prescription!
The impact of this on our children was trajectory changing. Seeing for themselves that the Bible made sense, and was defensible and authentic, meant that the Lord won the battle for their minds. As they continue to experience the great teaching at camp, He becomes more important to them. What a great return on our investment with just a little time at camp.
Camp Shoshanah has equipped and empowered us as believers,
and now we are beginning to experience the joy of taking the extraordinary teaching back to our church home. It is a beautiful circle - we came to camp, saw that the teaching was amazing, began
teaching the material in our church, and now we are bringing friends to camp because they want to experience this for themselves.
Next to the teaching, the greatest thing about Camp Shoshanah is the fellowship! We were so blessed to find, that first year at camp, that it is not an American church but a global church represented by the attendees. It is almost unimaginable until you experience it, the unity of the body of Jesus across all cultural differences. The one commonality that everyone has is a love for the study of the Word of God. Don't just try to imagine what that is like... come and see for yourselves, come and be fed.
Blessings in the Messiah,
